About the inscenation
A fairy-tale musical not only about the search for true happiness.
The original version of the Broadway musical Finian’s Rainbow captivated the Czech duo V+W so much that, right after their joint return from exile, they adapted it for the Czech stage, relocating it into Czech realities. The central character became the water sprite Čochtan, a role that Jan Werich tailored specifically for himself, while Jiří Voskovec directed the play. The Magic Pot was also their last joint play, and it featured several prominent artists, such as Ljuba Hermanová and Soňa Červená. Finian’s Rainbow (The Magic Pot in czech) by V+W, with its kindness and subtle humor, not only reflects the age-old wish for the triumph of good over evil but also emphasizes the urgent feeling that we have only one home. And how it feels when it’s so far away, “over there, beyond that rainbow.”
VIP tickets (rows 10 and 11 and the right-hand box seats) include a backstage tour, which will take place after the performance. The meeting point for tour participants is on the left side of the stage. The tour lasts approximately 20 minutes.
Please note that seats in the 1st row have limited legroom. If you need more space for any reason, we kindly ask you to choose a different row. Thank you for your understanding.

Reviews
The production is built on high-quality singing, acting, and dancing performances. Petr Rychlý relishes his role as the good-natured father, Marshal. The star of the premiere was Petr Jeništa’s water sprite Čochtan, who, following in the footsteps of Werich’s humor, creates a distinctive character full of humanity and humor. The young couple was played by the superbly singing Dagmar Křížová (Káča) and Robert Urban (Woody). However, all the performers contribute to the success of this delightful family musical.
Finians’s Rainbow is an extraordinary performance that succeeds in creating an atmosphere that captivates audiences of all ages. The exemplary behavior of the children in the audience is clear proof of this. The stage radiated incredibly positive energy and harmony—something I tend to encounter more often in productions that have been running for a while, but which is rare for a premiere. I’m delighted that this play has made its debut at the Hybernia Theater, and I hope we’ll be able to enjoy it for as long as possible.
This well-known musical about the search for true values in life has been given a lightness and playfulness in this new production that suits it very well. The humor here is subtle, gentle, and subtly reminds us of what truly matters in life. A huge asset is the character of the water sprite Čochtan—Petr Jeništa plays him with such naturalness, charm, and wit that he immediately wins over the audience. His delivery of lines and witty remarks is a sheer joy to watch. Thanks to the well-coordinated ensemble and the visible dedication of all the performers, the entire production has a warm, slightly nostalgic atmosphere and a sense of cohesion.
The creators have succeeded in transforming this well-known production about the search for life’s true treasure into an incredibly fresh, playful, and human spectacle. The direction sensitively blends humor with a reminder of important values. The standout highlight is Petr Jeništa’s Čochtan, whose irresistibly funny and charismatic performance lights up every scene. The energetic ensemble work of the entire cast creates a warm, slightly nostalgic atmosphere and a strong sense of community. It’s a great choice for an enjoyable family theater experience.
This musical, which has enjoyed years of success, has managed to surprise us once again. The creators have put together a production that is fresh, accessible, and entertaining for the entire audience, from children to adults. On stage, humor blends with gentle nostalgia and a reminder that true wealth is to be found elsewhere than in material things.
Great credit goes to Mr. Jeništa, whose portrayal of Čochtan is full of panache and energy and immediately captures the audience’s attention. Each of his appearances brings laughter and joy through small details.
Overall, this is a production you can count on: a relaxing family experience where everyone will find something to enjoy. If you’re looking for a theater recommendation that will delight you and put you in a good mood, this is the perfect choice.
