About the inscenation

The musical production Golden Lyre will reveal the backstage and present the Bratislava Lyre Festival as a phenomenon of the time, without nostalgia, without idealization, but with insight, humor and naming the defects of the former regime, which presented this extremely popular event as a showcase of the culture of socialist Czechoslovakia.

An appealing atmosphere of a cult event. Familiar faces. Popular songs. A touch with the West, a fleeting kiss of capitalism, a flirtation with show business and a whiff of freedom. Long summer festival days, wild evenings in the V-club and the final one in the Krystal bar.

Lyra – gold, silver or bronze… In one night, she made stars out of performers and hits out of songs.

Still, one inappropriate lyre from the Lyra stage caused a ban on songwriting and public performance, and managed to ruin the careers and lives of the performers and their families.

Behind the opulent, normalized visuals, however, he also reveals the nakedness and perversity of an era that often led to the suppression of personal freedom and opinions.
